Cool Tips

The PalmOne Treo 600 winningly combines a keyboard-based Palm OS handheld with mobile phone, camera, and Internet connectivity in a pleasingly compact unit.

Find and Dial Contacts Quickly

When you're in the Contacts application, you don't need to get into any special Find mode in order to look up a contact. Just use the keyboard to type the contact's first initial, followed by one or two letters of their last name. As you type, the Contacts list narrows down the possible choices. Use the directional pad to highlight the particular phone number you want to call, then press the Center button to dial.

Call Them Again

Pressing the center button of the directional pad when you're in phone mode pops up a list of the last 10 numbers you've called, and gives you access to the Call Log. Pressing the center button on any highlighted entry in the recently called list or the Call Log dials that contact.

No Paper Clip Required

Occasionally, like many Palm devices, the Treo will freeze up, requiring a soft reset. There's no need to go rummaging for a paper clip to insert into the Reset hole on the back of the Treo. Unscrewing the tip of the stylus reveals the Treo's Reset pin. Don't worry, this doesn't delete your data!

It's a Camera, Too!

Let's face it: a 0.3 megapixel digital camera isn't going to set the world on fire, or win you any photography awards. But for taking quick snapshots and sending them via e-mail, the Treo's built-in camera is just fine. You'll need a decent amount of light, but you can get good results, as you can see in this obligatory picture of my cat.

On an overcast day, this outdoor shot came out a bit shifted towards the blue end of the spectrum, but was still fine.

The Pictures application allows you to use the screen as a viewfinder, display a list of pictures you've taken, and share them with others via e-mail. Pictures are approximately 30KB in size.
