JiWire's Quick Take

Likes
Gigabit switch, top wireless throughput at near and mid-range, smart setup wizard, sleek design, some interoperability with other draft-n equipment.

Dislikes
Somewhat disappointing range, internal antennae not adjustable, need matching cards to be sure of top speeds, need to run in draft-n-only mode for maximum performance, no Radius server support, must pay for support after 90 days or for more than basic installation.

Good for
Those with gigabit Ethernet in their wired computers or network storage drives can benefit from the gigabit switch in this router, as well as the fast wireless performance. The speed is perfect for applications like streaming media and VoIP phone calls.

Bad for
Anyone reasonably satisfied with their current router should just wait for certified 802.11n products to appear next year, when prices will also be lower.

PC Magazine "Unlike all of its competitors, which decided to outfit their draft-n devices with a more or less elaborate array of antennas, Netgear opted for a concealed-antenna design. The resulting sleek white case, with acrylic and gray accents and backlit status icons, should appeal to the design-conscious audience that Apple has helped develop."

Wi-Fi Planet "The WNR854T lacks configuration for QoS, has support for only one DDNS provider, and port forward/port triggering options are sparsely populated. For many, those advanced features dont mean much -- what they want is speed. And with gigabit LAN ports and a top measured throughput of 93.7 Mbps, the WNR854T delivers."
