JiWire's Quick Take

Likes
Shares EV-DO cell data connections with both wired and wireless clients, support for both EV-DO PC Cards and USB handsets, simple browser-based setup, optional automobile power adapter.

Dislikes
Hard to diagnose EV-DO signal problems, EV-DO has relatively poor performance compared to other broadband technologies, much larger than a travel router.

Good for
Mobile workgroups, RV vacationers or any business or family that wants to share a broadband cell connection at home or on the road.

Bad for
Those who need a more compact travel solution, or can't justify the $299 price tag plus $80 per month cell contract.

Network Computing "After living with the KR1 for a few weeks, I could see its potential. You could use it any place where offices are impermanent--construction sites and trade shows, for example. People who travel often may find the KR1 intriguing, as they can share their EV-DO connection with colleagues, bypassing paid hot spots."

EV-DO Info "Here is a cool use, grab a portable battery (we have one that lasts for 20 hours), a KR1, a KPC650 and you can setup an instant hotspot where there is EVDO signal, no Power required. With the recent hurricanes in the US, the advantages of this can quickly be understood. Plus if you have frequent power outages in your home or office, you can have internet connection within 30 seconds of a power failure."
